If you want to wear Country Road or Sass and Bide but you have a Kmart budget, don't despair. You can still get the look for a lot less, by shopping around lower priced chain stores during the SALES.
You won't be heart-broken if it falls apart in 6 months (if you only paid $10 for it) and high fashion items usually have a very short shelf life due to the next big thing coming out. Be warned though, as most stores will not do lay by on reduced items and some will only accept cash.
SUPRE - Try and get past the loud music and the fact that they seem to cater for teenagers and you will find some true gems. Supre is fantastic for staples like shirts and denim and they have the best sales. At the end of summer they take a whopping 70% off everything. I went berserk! The rest of the year's not bad either.
JAY JAYS - Three skirts for $20 is what I scored recently, during one of Jay Jays mega sales. They were each originally $45, so I saved a total of $115 just by waiting a couple of months. When not in sale mode, they still deliver with low priced separates and accessories. They had the cheapest ponchos last year (my new favourite wardrobe item) and that was before the sales had even started.
TARGET - This department store is a real treasure trove, not only can you get great Clothing bargains, but you will find Manchester, Books, Furniture and Home wares as well. After Christmas and at the end of winter they slash prices, but wait for a few more weeks, because they then take a further 30% off already reduced stock. An absolute bargain.
WESTCO - I purchased a red bikini for $6 last week (it had been reduced from $40 to $10 and they were having a 40% off sale, hence the $6 price tag) and have already been complemented on it twice. Definitely worth a look-see. I also spotted some gorge little strappy sandals that will be perfect for next summer for only $8. Gotta love a good SALE.
TIPS & TRICKS
Case the joint well in advance, try on everything that you like and make sure you remember your correct size (write things down if you have to). At sale time there is little chance of finding a fitting room, let alone a staff member to call upon for help.
Don't be afraid to purchase for the season or year ahead. I always buy swimsuits for the next Christmas, at the end of summer sales in early February. I also purchase clothing and shoes for my toddler in the size above for the following year. I never pay full price for anything and he is the best dressed kid on the block.
Check out some of the pricier stores as well. You may be surprised by the savings during the sales. I have purchased many an exclusive item at ridiculously low prices at the end of the season.Case the joint well in advance, try on everything that you like and make sure you remember your correct size (write things down if you have to).
